Advocates Applaud Historic Harris-Walz Ticket Announcement

Both candidates have a proven track record of addressing kitchen table issues most consequential for working families across the country

Washington, D.C. — Today, Vice President Kamala Harris announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her Vice Presidential running mate. This is one of the strongest pro-working family tickets in our nation’s history, with a proven track record of addressing the kitchen table critically important to working families across the nation.

Aissa Canchola Bañez, Political Director of Protect Borrowers Action, issued the following statement:

“By choosing Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, Vice President Harris is showing once again that helping working families is at the core of her agenda. Both Vice President Harris and Governor Walz have proven track records of addressing the kitchen table issues that families care most about—from making college more affordable and combating the student loan debt crisis, to reducing household costs and childhood hunger, to fighting for livable wages and creating a care economy that truly supports workers and their families.

As Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and their right-wing allies continue to promote their extreme Project 2025 manifesto, which would attack working families and push college affordability, student loan debt relief, affordable childcare, affordable housing, paid family leave, and so much more even further out of reach, the contrast could not be more clear.”

Here’s Governor Walz’s record on tackling the student debt crisis and making college more affordable:
