AS GRADUATION SEASON KICKS OFF, DON BACON'S EXTREMISM WILL KEEP TENS OF THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS, FAMILIES DROWNING IN STUDENT LOAN DEBT

As students and families across Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District prepare to celebrate the college graduating class of 2024, Don Bacon and House Republicans remain hell-bent on robbing their own constituents of much-needed student loan debt relief and making student loans more expensive for millions of Americans.

While President Biden has worked to use every legal tool available to him to provide more student debt relief—approving $153 billion in student debt relief for more than 4 million Americans, with more to come— Don Bacon worked to convince the Supreme Court to block debt relief for more than 87,000 eligible student loan borrowers in Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District. Last year, Don Bacon voted to block student debt relief and reinstate forgiven student loan debt for public service workers, including first responders, nurses, and teachers.

Don Bacon also voted to force more than 11,000 of his own constituents to pay more on their monthly student loan bills by trying to repeal President Biden’s Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan—the most affordable student loan repayment plan available for struggling borrowers and their families.

Let's be crystal clear: Don Bacon is working to keep tens of thousands of his own constituents drowning in student loan debt.

Aissa Canchola Banez, Political Director of Protect Borrowers Action, issued the following statement:

“This commencement season, the class of 2024 will be graduating with the hope that student loan debt will no longer feel like a life sentence. Unfortunately, House Republicans like Don Bacon are working overtime to push student loan debt relief out of reach and make student loan payments even more expensive for thousands of their own hard-working constituents.

“The 96,000 residents of Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District who are being crushed by the student loan debt crisis will remember who fought to improve their lives and strengthen the economic stability of their families—and it is NOT Don Bacon.”
